Sharing the books
Licence for readers
Last updated 24 October 2026
Every book on this site is free. You can read it here, and where there’s a PDF you can download it. This page explains what that free licence covers, and what still needs my permission. It’s the plain-English version of the copyright part of the terms of use.
The short version
Read the books, keep them, enjoy them. Please don’t hand out copies or put them anywhere else. Send people the link instead.
You’re welcome to
- read any book online, as often as you like
- download the PDF, where there is one, and keep it on your own phone, tablet, e-reader or computer
- print a copy for your own reading
- read a book aloud to your family at home
- quote a short passage in a review, a post or a book club, with credit (see below)
- share a link to the site, a book or a chapter. That’s the best way to pass a book on.
Please ask first before you
- send a copy of a book or a PDF to anyone else, by email, message, file sharing or a printed copy
- upload a book, a chapter or a PDF to another website, app, cloud folder, forum or e-book service
- sell a book, or use it in anything that’s sold or earns money
- record it as an audiobook or podcast, or read it out in public
- translate it, adapt it, or turn it into a play, film, comic or anything else new
- use the covers or the site’s artwork
- use any of the text to train, test or feed an AI system, or collect it into a dataset.
Free to read doesn’t mean free to copy. The books are copyright © C.E. Winship, and all rights not given on this page are reserved.
How to ask
Email hello@cewinship.co.uk. Tell me which book, what you’d like to do with it, and where or who it’s for. A school, a book club or a library asking to print a few copies is exactly the sort of thing I’m likely to say yes to.
Permission only counts if it’s in writing from me, and only for what it says. It might come with a few conditions, like keeping my name on it.
Crediting a quote
Something like this is perfect:

If you find a copy somewhere else
If you see one of these books posted, sold or shared somewhere it shouldn’t be, I’d be grateful if you let me know at hello@cewinship.co.uk. A link to where you saw it is all I need.
