Terms of use

About these terms

This site is run by the author who writes as C.E. Winship. By using it, you agree to these terms. They’re short, and most of them come down to one thing: please enjoy the books, and please don’t take them.

If you have a question, email hello@cewinship.co.uk.

The books are free to read

You don’t need to pay, sign up or give me any details to read here. You can read online, and where a book has a PDF you can download it to read on your own devices.

That’s for your own personal reading. Free to read doesn’t mean free to copy.

Copyright

The books and all the writing on this site are copyright © C.E. Winship, all rights reserved. The covers and the site’s design are protected by copyright too.

Without my written permission, you must not:

  • copy a book or chapter, in full or in large parts
  • share copies with other people, by email, file sharing, print or any other way
  • upload the books, or the PDFs, to any other website, app or service
  • sell them, or use them in anything you sell
  • turn them into audiobooks, translations, adaptations or other new versions
  • use them to train, test or improve any artificial intelligence or machine learning system, or put them into one.

That last point includes scraping the site and collecting the text into datasets. I reserve all my rights here, including over text and data mining.

What’s fine

You’re welcome to quote short passages in a review, a blog post or a book club discussion, as long as you credit C.E. Winship and link to this site where you can. Sharing a link to a book or a chapter is always fine, and always appreciated.

If you’d like to do something else, just ask. I may well say yes.

Content notes and who the books are for

Some of the books contain mature themes. These include sapphic relationships, violence and difficult subjects that some readers will find upsetting. Each book’s page lists its content notes before you start reading, so you can decide whether it’s right for you.

The site is meant for adults and older teenagers. If you’re younger, please talk to a parent or carer first.

The stories are fiction

The characters, events and many of the places in these books are made up. Where real places or historical events appear, they’re used in a fictional way. Any likeness to real people, living or dead, is coincidence.

Links to other sites

Now and then I may link to other websites. I don’t control them and I’m not responsible for what they contain or how they handle your data. Check their own terms and privacy pages.

Using the site

Please don’t try to break the site, get round its security, overload it, or copy it with automated tools. I can block anyone who does.

I try to keep the site running and the books accurate. But it’s a free site run by one person, so I can’t promise it will always be available or free from mistakes. I may change, move or take down books or pages at any time.

Liability

The site and the books are provided free and as they are. As far as the law allows, I’m not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site, being unable to use it, or relying on anything in it.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing here affects your legal rights.

Your privacy

How the site handles personal data is explained on the privacy page and the cookies page.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms now and then. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, the new terms apply.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales, unless you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in which case you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
